In Actual Operating Conditions, Mica Tape Performance Shows Some Variations

Mica tape is a tape-shaped insulation material made by bonding mica paper, alkali-free glass cloth or film reinforcement with different adhesives, and processed by baking, winding, and cutting. It is suitable for the main insulation of large and medium-sized motor and electrical coils with different heat resistance grades. Mica tape performance may differ depending on the actual working conditions.

Mica tape for high voltage motors is suitable for vacuum pressure impregnation (VPI) with low mica content and medium mica content and less adhesive. It can be used as the main insulation of high voltage motors and has good electrical and mechanical performance, meeting the requirements of the development of motors towards high voltage levels and high capacity. Most motor manufacturers use low adhesive mica tape.

The adhesive in low adhesive mica tape affects the insulation performance of the coil in two ways: the first is the adhesive content, which is generally the less the better. The second is the performance of the adhesive itself. Good mica tape manufacturers use adhesives that can both meet the bonding performance of mica tape and have a low dielectric loss value at high temperatures, while also ensuring good compatibility between mica tape and impregnation resin.

Low adhesive mica tape has sufficient flexibility at room temperature, which is beneficial for wrapping coils. It also has good air permeability and infiltration, which is beneficial for the extraction of air and volatiles in the insulating layer and the impregnation of resin during VPI impregnation, ensuring the overall performance of the coil.

Wind power mica tape is made of mica paper as the base material, and polyethylene terephthalate film, polyimide film or corona-resistant film as the reinforcement material on both sides or one side, with heat-resistant epoxy adhesive or other heat-resistant resin, suitable for large and medium-sized wind power generators.

Polyimide film powder mica tape is a tape-shaped insulation material made by bonding heat-resistant epoxy with mica paper and polyimide film, and processed by baking, winding, and cutting. This mica tape has good flexibility at normal temperature and has superior dielectric performance and higher mechanical strength after wrapping the coil and curing. It is suitable for the main insulation of traction motors with a working temperature of 180-200℃ and insulation of various motors and electrical appliances.

Hydropower mica tape is a tape-shaped insulation material made of powder mica paper as the base material, reinforced with electrical alkali-free glass cloth on both sides and bonded with epoxy adhesive. It has good flexibility at normal temperature and has good electrical and mechanical strength after wrapping the motor coil and molding. It is suitable for the insulation of hydroelectric generators with a working temperature of 155℃ and the molding or hydraulic insulation of high-voltage motor coils.
